Our Vision

Passport to Services supports collaboration between agencies and families to improve the well being of children and young people.

We supply tools and techniques for people who work with children, young people and families to help them identify needs and provide the support that is most appropriate.

Our work is about early intervention and prevention not protection.

What is Passport To Services?

Passport to Services is a joint project between Gateshead and Newcastle. It is a new way of delivering services to children, young people and their families.

Passport to Services will help to link up a range of vital services for children, young people and families to help them get better help and support when they need it.

Why Are We Doing It?

At present, various organisations already hold basic information about children and young people, but it is sometimes held in different places. As a result, parents and young people often have to repeat the same information several times even though they are know to lots of different services. This can be both frustrating and time consuming and can mean that children and young people miss out on vital services sometimes with tragic results.

What Are We Doing?

Passport to Services are working on new ways of linking up workers from a whole range of different services that help and support children and young people.

One way is a new secure computer system which will bring together basic information about children and young people in one place. This will allow services to contact each other quickly to ensure that the child or young person receives the support they need, when they need it.

Passport to Services will also provide a new on-line service directory offering children, young people and families a fast and convenient way of finding out about a range of activities, events and support services to suit their needs and interests.

Where Will We Start?

Passport to Services in Gateshead will begin in the Children’s Centre covering the Blaydon and Winlaton areas and with a number of services that work with children with disabilities.

In Newcastle the project will start in the New Deal for Communities area.

What Will We Achieve?

Passport to Services will work to achieve a number of outcomes for children, young people and families:

  • Provide better access to information about the types of services available to children, young people and families in Newcastle and Gateshead.
  • Improve communications between practitioner's, parents, children and young people when assessing needs.
  • Increase the confidence of practitioners and families to work together to solve problems when they arise.
  • Ensure every child has a single contact responsible for co-ordinating services provided to them.
  • Use the information we collect about the services provided, to plan for delivering services better in the future.
